The 2020 Long Island Library Conference has been Cancelled

For the last several weeks, the Nassau and Suffolk County Library Associations and the Long Island Library Conference Committee have been monitoring the coronavirus outbreak, hoping it would be possible to hold the Long Island Library Conference on schedule and safely.

Unfortunately, we have had to cancel this year’s conference in order to ensure the health and safety of our community of attendees, speakers, exhibitors, and supporters. We hope that all program speakers, vendors, and registrants will adjust their schedules and be with us on Thursday, May 13th 2021 at the Melville Marriott. Should the new date not permit your participation, please contact the committee.

We thank you for your patience during these challenging times and appreciate your cooperation. The Committee looks forward to seeing you next year and is putting renewed energy into planning a great conference.

Frequently Asked Questions

Please note the following information regarding the cancellation of the 2020 Long Island Library Conference:

I am a registered attendee, do I need to cancel my registration?

No. At this time you do not need to cancel your registration with us. We will roll over all attendee registration to next year’s conference, which will be held on Thursday, May 13th 2021.

I am a speaker, do I need to cancel my participation?

No. You do not need to cancel your participation with us. We hope that you will be able to present at the 2021 conference. If that date does not permit your participation, please contact your arranger.

I am an exhibiting company, do I need to cancel my booth or sponsorship?

No. At this time you do not need to cancel your participation with us. We will simply roll over your booth registration to next year’s event. We truly appreciate your participation and cooperation during this crisis.

All exhibiting companies have been emailed separately with additional information and instructions pertaining to their booth due to this year’s conference being cancelled.

Early Bird Registration for the 2020 Long Island Library Conference ends on Friday!

Registration for the 45th Long Island Library Conference will be increasing in price after March 6th. Be a savvy shopper and save yourself (or your library) some money and sign up by end-of-day on Friday.

Call for 2020 Program Proposals

The 2020 Long Island Library Conference will be on May 14, 2020 at the Melville Marriott. The Conference Committee invites program proposals on all areas of librarianship. We are especially interested in proposals that align with the 2020 theme, “A Vision for the Future”

Conference programs should be 60 minutes long, with the anticipation of 45 minutes of content, and 10 minutes of Q&A.

Proposal Evaluation
The Long Island Library Conference Committee will evaluate all proposals submitted by the deadline using the following criteria:

  • Keep titles clear and concise. Titles that run on too long will be shortened by the committee.
  • Merit and clarity of the 100-word program description
  • Relevance to the conference theme
  • Completeness of the proposal
  • Originality of proposed topic
  • Diversity of speakers and topics
    All proposals will be considered in the context of the overall structure of the conference and availability of time slots for proposed sessions.

Proposal Submission
The deadline for submitting proposals for the 2020 Long Island Library Conference is December 31, 2019. Use the LILC Google Form to submit your proposal.

Other Important Guidelines
INTERNET: Wireless Internet will be provided in all program rooms.
TRAVEL ARRANGEMENTS: The Long Island Library Conference Committee does not make travel arrangements for speakers and presenters. Presenters and/or the sponsors are responsible for making these arrangements.
SPEAKER REGISTRATION FEES: Only 2 presenters from each program will receive complimentary registration. These complementary presenters DO NOT have to register for the conference through the website. Their names will be given directly to registration by the Programs Chair. All other presenters beside the complimentary 2 are required to register for the conference and pay the appropriate registration fee.
EQUIPMENT: The Marriott will provide internet access and items such as projectors, screens, microphones, tables, lecterns, etc. Laptops will not be provided. Speakers or sponsors will be required to bring their own laptops. Speakers will be responsible for providing ANY adapters, dongles, cables OR other accessories necessary for the connection of their equipment.
SPONSOR: All programs for the conference require a sponsoring group (individual libraries and companies cannot sponsor programs).
